My wife and I wanted to try this place after seeing it many times on our way to get cupcakes. Tonight was the night and we were not disappointed. We sat outside which was nice even though the weather was warm. We ordered spring water and reviewed the menu. I was very happy with the selection and chose to have the Sicilian ziti. It had a red sauce with meat and eggplant and really hit the spot. The entrees we ordered came with salad and bread. The house dressing is wonderful. I'll be back to pick up a bottle of it for use at home. My wife had a pasta with shrimp and a spicy red sauce which she said was delicious. It must have been since she didn't let me try any of it. Our waiter Joshua was one of the most attentive servers I've ever experienced. He didn't rush us, anticipated our needs well and provided a fantastic experience. His efforts added a star to my review. Thanks for amazing service. This place is very close to home and so we will be back.

I end up at Giovanni's every few weeks since I attend school nearby. The location by UCF was one of the first places my family and I consistently ate at when we first moved to the area in 2005, so I have a soft spot for the brand. Something I appreciate about Giovanni's is that it's consistent with pretty fair prices. Are there other pizza places/Americanized Italian restaurants that are better? Yes, most definitely. But Giovanni's is predictable, and there is something to be said for that. Pizza, salads, subs, pasta, and meat dishes are all options on the menu here. I'm personally a fan of the garlic knots. This location has consistent food quality and friendly staff, particularly the gentleman working in the to-go area during lunchtime. What a hoot. The food is pretty good, and the decor is similar to other locations with a lot of booth seating and a dimmer interior punctuated with colorful paintings of Italian scenes. Overall, a fine place to go if you're looking for Americanized Italian food. If you're looking for good pizza, there are other establishments I would recommend, but Giovanni's has their basics down.

Giovanni's reminds me of a lot of the pizzerias I grew up with in New York. An open kitchen with a pleasant dining room right next to it. But the layout and decor isn't the only reason - the pizza is some of the closest to New York style I've had in Orlando. The restaurant can get a little crowded, but we've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table. Service quality varies, but I've mostly been there during lunch hours with lunch crowds. Beyond the pizza, we've also ordered some of the entrees which have all been delicious and come in generous portions. The sauces are well seasoned and dinner entrees are more than enough to bring home leftovers. Their ziti is a favorite of mine. Here's hoping their other locations are as good as this one.

People are super nice here from my experience. There's a few people that have been working there for quite a while and they are always pleasant. The house dressing is crack.. You can buy it. I keep some in a syringe at home. Ok, I don't yet. Its awesome to dip their bread in. I'm a fanboy of the Pasta Silva.. and I rarely move beyond it (but have and their other pizza pasta stuff is nice).. sometimes I get the Silva with (non breaded) eggplant.. but I've never been disappointed with anything ordered. There's some sort of weird (but nice) smell in this place that is a mix of fragrance(or cleaner?) and food that I love. I think my friends looked at me funny for saying that. I wish our Gio's over here had a bar. Maybe I shouldn't.

So many restaurants (especially Italian restaurants) try to "improve" or put a twist on the classics. Not Giovanni's. Just perfect, classic Italian food! We had the garlic knots, the two slice special, and the eppy roll. Everything was perfect! The Eppy Roll is an "off menu" special that only makes appearances on the black board, or when it is requested. It is basically a calzone, without the ricotta. Delicious. The prices at Giovanni's are very low for the amount of food you get, so overall, a great value.

"Meh" is the epitome of my experience here. The servers were disorganized, and the restaurant seemed to be led in a most chaotic manner. The food was "meh" as well. I ordered a chicken and pasta dish and was completely unimpressed. It was something I would have been okay with if I'd ordered it at the Piccadilly Cafeteria. Overall, not exciting in the slightest. I won't be going back.

I had Giovanni's for dinner last night, and leftovers for lunch today! When I visit Giovanni's I go for the pasta. My husband and I tried their pizza once, and didn't dig it, but their pasta dishes are awesome. I always get the Paglia e Fieno Papalina which is Linguini "with ham, peas, and mushrooms in a light tomato sauce with cream $13.99" It is awesome, and when I crave pasta...this is the dish I want! However, if you ar like me and don't like your pasta swimming in sauce, ask that they go light in the sauce....if not it's like having pasta soup when you order this dish!

First off, I'm from the Northeast where we have some incredible Italian food. That said, we've been looking for a decent Italian restaurant down here for years. Ding - ding - ding!!! We have a winner!! Giovannia's is as close to "real" Italian food as it gets. Garlic bread with cheese is my kids favorite. House dressing is pretty good. Pizza is delicious. Sandwiches could be filled more for the price, but are yummy. Pastas are just perfect. Thank you!!! Now I don't have to fly to Boston or Providence for really good Italian food :)

I had the uncontrollable hankering for some pasta today. Since I was on my way to the College Park area, I stopped by Giovanni's on the way. I had an amazing Baked Ziti dish. Since I was very hungry, I got the dinner portion, which is twice the size of the lunch portion and comes with salad and garlic bread to start. The salad was also great because their version of Italian dressing comes with a mix of herbs and spices that just makes it very special and tasty. I tried my friend's rigatoni and it was okay, but the Baked Ziti was awesome. The server was very nice but was swamped with tables so the overall service was just average. The quality of the pastas and salads makes this a potential repeat experience, though.

Cost-cutting gone too far! I am so sorry to write this review. They are an awesome group of people, and I certainly tried to address it while I was there. I get that it is a tough economy. I really do. They have switched to reheating the bread. So now, it is made at one time - I'm not sure if that is lunch, or a couple days a week - I have no idea. But regardless of when it's actually made, their move now is to reheat it to order. So they douse it in garlic spread and warm it up. Let me tell you, it just is not the same. I get how they can do that with pizza, and they have always reheated pizza at Giovanni's. The difference is that you see it sitting there in the Plexiglas case from the week, and you make an informed decision. The bread; however, takes on a totally different texture when reheated, and they don't have it sitting in that same case so you know you are getting reheated food vs. freshly prepared. If they want me back, they need one of those neon "Fresh, Hot, Donuts" signs like they have at Krispy Kreme, so you can see from the road when the bread is fresh. I spoke with the server, and her response was to take another batch, reheat it, and really soak it in garlic spread. I like the place, and I used to go their a fair amount, but I'm done.

My colleague described the dishes as chesserrific and I have to say that the lasagna did not disappoint. Their food is typical Italian American with a very similar decor. If you want upscale, fine dining this is not the place for you. If you want cheese laden pasta dishes, this place is a must try.

Go to the store, by generic white bread and Ragu. Go home and dump the Ragu on the bread and put it in the oven. What do you have? Giovanni's. Service can be as bad as there food.

My family has been ordering and enjoying pizza from Giovanni's for the past 15 years. In fact, it's one of the surest things about our week: No matter what happens, we all know that Friday night means pizza, and we'd never order from anywhere other than Giovanni's. Pizza Friday is an important tradition; you can't mess with it. And it's not just the quality of the food we love, although that's excellent, of course. It's the fact that Giovanni's is a neighborhood place, run by local people who know and appreciate Winter Park just as much as we do. The service is always great--I'm always greeted by name when I step up to the counter--and that's something I really appreciate. Business can be personal, and the customer service at Giovanni's prove that. That's really what it comes down to: Great food, great service in a great neighborhood location. What more could you ask for?

classic NY/NJ Italian family restaurant in FL! found it while looking for the candy shop in the same strip mall. i got a slice and salad for lunch. salad good, cukes dried out in the center, w/ great house dressing. slice of cheese pizza almost nostalgic, just can't get NY pizza in MI. hubby again got the eggplant parm hot sub. i thought it needed more sauce, at least on the side. he still liked it. would have liked to try garlic knots but we already had too much bread. i would give them 3 1/2 stars; since i can't, it's only three not four. service was good, no fake joy at serving us. i would return if i am ever in the area, tho doubtful i ever will be.

Love the Garlic Knots! Ok, everyone loves the Garlic Knots, but I also love that I can design my own pasta entree. I don't eat meat and they give me several meat free options. They have a very friendly staff and plenty of booths (booths are my favorite). Traditional Italian food that you will love AND THEY DELIVER!

Giovannis to me is overall okay for dinner. I went there with my parents for a nice evening out. The service while we were there was good, but not great. The waiters took a little bit of time to get our drinks and our order. I decided to have the Tortellini Giovanni. I think it was an interesting combination. I am used to having just pesto sauce or tomato. This married the flavors quite nicely. The other items we had, such as the mozzarella sticks and salad were okay. I did decide on take out one night and unfortunately, I would not recommend that. Everything came open in the bag it was wrapped in as nothing was sealed properly and it was a disaster as I tried to keep it from spilling on the ride home. The response I got when I called to explain was disappointing and my food items were not replaced. While I do think the entrees for the most part are very good, with the service the way it is and the medicore other menu items, it is hard to decide to go there over another restaurant where the service and meal are both on point.

Very good food and service. They bring fresh bread to the table and it's hot and delicious. I loved the minestrone and child loved the broccoli cheese soup. I had the Zuppa de pesce and it was filled with seafood. Others at the table had the chicken Francesca (they loved) and antipasto salad (loved). All in all, everyone was pleased, service was friendly and attentive and prices were reasonable. We would definitely go back.

I've been here twice, and both times I've never really had a very enjoyable meal. Salads are pre-made, the hostess/manager doesn't seem to be very happy...and the flavors are kinda hit or miss. My boyfriend really enjoys the garlic knots, so we've come twice. I can tell they've cleaned up the place a little bit, but the paper placemats are a bit of a turn off. Today I ordered the linguine with chicken and broccoli in olive oil. The chicken came out extremely charred, thinly sliced and smokey-flavored. The dish itself didn't really come together in terms of flavor, and when I compare this to the same dish I had at another local Italian family-owned restaurant, it doesn't. Our waiter Michael was very nice, though he did seem a bit nervous or new to waiting...not sure. I think of the restaurant spent some more attention to the details and improved their look, it could be a very nice dining experience. It's seems to be more of a casual pizza place as opposed to a nice Italian restaurant. Greet your customers in a smiling and friendly manner. Connect with them. Make them want to come back. Use white table cloths, light the candles at the tables, offer different specials, offer dessert options, expand the prosecco options, use normal-sized wine glasses and not the small ones, use glasses for water instead of the pizza-hut-style plastic cups.

I went here for dinner and found that it's hard to fault Giovanni's. I've had their pizza many times before and have never been disappointed. I haven't had an entree in a long time so I was anxious to see if they were still as good as I remembered. Our waitress came and cheerfully took our drink order, but once we couldn't decide what we wanted to eat, her tone seemed less cheerful. Hopefully she was just having an off night. Our salads came out first and they were cold, crisp and fresh, with the same amazing house dressing they've had forever. Along with that came fresh warm bread that I prefer to garlic knots because it's done just right, There isn't too much bread, butter or garlic. Our entrees didn't take long to come out, I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, which was as perfect as you could get, and worlds apart from the dish I was served at Mulberry Street in Avalon Park. The most surprising thing was how perfect the pasta was cooked. Usually it's too done for my liking but here it was better than any pasta I've had elsewhere. My friend ordered the Baked Ziti with Chicken and it was equally delicious. Pricing is about the same as most other Italian restaurants, if not slightly better. Two dinners with salad and one drink (I had water) came to $33. For the quality of the food, it's worth it.

Imagine ordering a large pizza pie of half pepperoni and cheese...when it arrives it looks appealing. Then once you bite into it, you realized they had disguised a round cardboard box and draped it in cheese and sauce. It tasted like crap and the service was pretty terrible.

Love this place. Staff is very professional and friendly. Bread knots are the best I've ever had. Tried the Veal Piccata on the last visit and it was fabulous!! Forget the chain Italian restaurants these guys know how to make authentic Italian food that taste wonderful.

Really good authentic style Italian! It's a little quiet inside, which can be nice but I think if they had live music it would make the place a lot more interesting. We live very close so most of the time we order and pick it up. We usually get the pizza, which is fabulous! They can hit you up for a hefty bill if you load up on toppings but a simple margarita is awesome! The catering is very reasonably priced and tremendous, I held a dinner party and ordered the chicken Marsala, it came with enough for probably 6-8 people and included salad. Everyone raved that the flavor was delicious! We will continue to order from them.

Best spaghetti carbonara I've had in the U.S. Actually says egg on the menu instead of cream, in Italy the sauce is made with egg but in the U.S. usually made with cream, egg is better. Grilled pepper and cheese appetizer was great as well. Service was very good.

To sum it up in one sentence: Consistently good Italian food at reasonable prices with nearly guaranteed leftovers. This is one of four family-run locations and that's one of my requirements for good Italian food: mom-and-pop shops. The menu is the same at all locations, as is the atmosphere, so whether you're in Winter Park, Lake Mary or Orlando, you're going to most likely get a good experience. I've been here plenty of times, so I can say for certain that the food, service and value are all good. I've never had a bad meal and service is usually pretty good with the rare off night (but restaurant doesn't have that?) The menu is the standard Italian fare: plenty of pastas, chicken, veal, seafood, pizza. My personal favorites are the chicken napoletana and chicken Florentine. They also have an extensive pizza topping list, including one of my hard to find favorites, artichoke hearts. Plenty of garlic bread that's not too messy but leaves your mouth with that wonderful garlickey aftertaste. All their breads are fresh baked, so it can sometimes be a slight wait for a basket, but it's oh so worth it. Dinners portions are large, I can't remember the last time I ended a meal without leftovers. And as with most Italian dishes - they're always better the second day, so score lunch for tomorrow! They're also pretty good at accommodating groups, and great for kids, too. Daily specials, good selection of beer and wine, pretty much something for everyone.

I've only had lunch here and it's average. The salad dressing is VERY good the salad itself is nothing special - lettuce, shaved carrots, couple grape tomatoes, couple cucumber slices (skin on which is bitter if the cucumbers are conventional & waxed which these are). Every pasta dish I've had has been pretty flavorful but much too oily. The pizza is ok but the crust is almost always super hard on the bottom and just a little too thick. Good flavor though. Service has always been attentive & quick which is much appreciated for a business lunch.

We used to go here quite a bit, and my wife and I have great memories coming here after our baby classes at Winter Park Hospital. But tonight, my wife went to go pick up a pizza and forgot to bring the coupon. "Policy" has no flexibility apparently, and we ended up paying about four extra dollars. Well, that four dollars just cost you guys a lot more in future business. As a "mom and pop" business, you'd think that they'd be less by-the-book.

Just a quick note: I stopped in here today to buy a bottle of the house salad dressing since I hadn't had any in a few months (the last time I was here was in late February). A 16-ounce bottle costs $7.44, after tax. The dressing is great, though I'm thinking that's a bit expensive. Hmm. Oh, well - I still bought it. I can't wait to try it again on my next salad. No change to my previous review, since I didn't stop in to eat. However, the staff was very polite during my brief visit today - the hostess and the cashier (who was also cooking) were courteous and I was in and out of here in only a few minutes. If you haven't been in here yet, then I highly recommend you give it a shot, and don't miss that house salad dressing!

I've been to Giovanni's twice now. The first time, the food was pretty good, and I would probably have given them 4 stars. I just brought a group of friends back last night. Not very hungry, I just got a slice of stuffed pizza and a slice of cheese pizza. It tasted good, but not great. Then my intestines started voting. Three times last night, they voted that I not give this place four stars. They continued violently voting against a good review today. I shouldn't lose weight from eating two slices of pizza, if you get my drift. Without going into details, I can assure you it was the pizza.

I ordered a large veggie pizza for delivery. The delivery was fast, but the quality of the pizza was not great. Our pizza came with broccoli on it, which I was not expecting because I confirmed the toppings while ordering, and that was not on the list. The crust was burnt and tasted like cardboard, and the quality of the toppings were poor. Overall the pizza was not tasty. I will not order from this restaurant again.

Giovanni's is one of our all time favorite spots; it's reasonbly priced and the food is excellent. Be sure to save room for dessert though as the tiramasu is to die for - and its the perfect size for sharing with your honey. If you are a first-time diner there, all their namesake dishes are absolutely wonderful as well as the offerings of nightly specials. The ziti as previously reviewed by a fellow yelper is very, very good. One thing I have noticed is there doesn't seem to be too much of a turnover with employees there; it's nice to be remembered each and every time we come in for a meal.

September 2008, I'd packed up my car and the trailer full of all my things, and headed on my way to California. Leaving was such an emotional experience, I didn't think to eat until I got on the road at around ten o'clock and suddenly all I could think about was getting to eat Giovanni's cheese pizza one more time, which was conveniently on the way. We stop at around 10:15, and they're closed. When I explain my situation, they tell me the kitchen is closed, but happily offer to make me a pizza, which is was I was craving anyhow! In under ten minutes, I have the most perfect cheese pizza, and I tip them generously. How can I not give this place five stars? That said, I've been here previous visits and had their garlic knots (mmm), their baked ziti (wonderful, though lacking in the ricotta department), and their salad. Their house vinaigrette is...incredibly. Savory and sweet, but not too sweet. I wasn't surprised when I found out they now sell their dressing separately.

Although I miss Tom, the greeter, who really added to the fun of going there by his incessant jollying and jokes with every new patron that came in, they still are AOK food-wise. My favorites are their hot garlic breads, their delicious house salad dressing and salads, and their Zoupa di pesche [ Outstanding ] Giovanni's Special Supreme pizza is to die for. We order one of those big deep squares with eight pieces, manage to choke down four and take home the rest every so often and make a couple more meals at home off of the remaining 4 pieces. I have never been disappointed at this place but I miss Tom and his jokes. Most of the time I end up taking home a couple of bottles of that delicious sweet house salad dressing and guard it judiciously over the next couple of weeks till time to go back and get some refills. Their Tiramisou is lovely as well, very light and fluffy and not so filling as some. [ Publix makes a nice one too, a bit richer and more filling ] I think after a big dinner I prefer not to be eating such a rich and heavy one as the Publix one though.
